Heartspring Methodist Foundation and the Texas Conference Center for Connectional Resources are again co-sponsoring seminars for clergy, and church staff or laity participating in the financial management of the local church.

Cost:

Each individual session is $45.00. Attend BOTH sessions for only $80.00. The cost of registration includes the book(s), all related handout materials, and presentation.

Details:

Clergy Tax Seminar:
There are no prerequisites to attend. Attendees should expect to gain knowledge about relevant changes to current tax laws, and learn about payroll issues related to ministers such as employment status, housing allowances, reimbursable expenses, tax free benefits, retirement plans, and more. The presenter will be using the 2015 version of Zondervan’s Minister’s Tax and Financial Guide, a copy of which is included with your registration.

This seminar is pending approval to offer 3-credit hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Credit.

Church Finance & Legal Update Seminar:
There are no prerequisites to attend. Attendees should expect to gain specific knowledge about relevant changes to current tax laws, and learn more about the basics of general church finance, including how to handle unique issues related to church employees and contractors, reimbursement plans, charitable gifts, tax deductible contributions, expense reimbursement, financial records and reporting, and more. The presenter will be using the 2015 version of Zondervan’s Church and Non-Profit Tax and Financial Guide, a copy of which is included with your registration.

This seminar is pending approval to offer 2.5-credit hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Credit.

Speakers:

Frank Sommerville will present the Houston seminar. He is an attorney with the law firm of Weycer, Kaplan, Pulaski and Zuber, PC and has served non-profit institutions of all sizes as a bookkeeper, accountant, auditor, tax advisor and advocate, litigator and legal advisor. Sommerville also is a discussion leader for the Texas Society of CPAs (TSCPA) on non-profit issues. His law practice concentrates on taxation, church and non-profit legal issues, estate planning, probate and related taxation.

Amy Hume will present the Tyler seminar. She is a certified public accountant with more than 30 years’ experience in public accounting and serves as principal manager with the UHY Advisors’ private client services group. Her duties include tax preparation for businesses and individuals, including clergy. She is married to Richard L. Hume, Jr. a United Methodist minister.
